Who Is Marcus Mosiah Garvey
Marcus Garvey was born on August 17, 1887 in St. Ann's Bay, Jamaica. He was a publisher, journalist, entrepreneur and orator. He was a political hero and a leader; a man with a world vision and a mission. A leader in the Pan African movement, he is the first National Hero of Jamaica and a Hero of the World. In this delightful and colorful children's activity book named in his honor, Marcus Teaches Us authors Wint & Stewart continue to spread his powerful philosophy message to children. They urge them to espouse the important beliefs and core values needed to make a difference in the world.
Writing with a 9 year old co-author is an inspiring event. Youth see things differently . Here Annu brings his own interpretation of how one can use Garvey's teachings in real life
From time to time we get frustrated trying to find that special book. This is the book to transform your child's self-esteem
Like all great philosophers, his words inspire, motivate and move you to examine your own life and way of thinking.
His famous quote
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.”

From my childhood my Aunty Viola Anderson taught me about Marcus Garvey. She taught me to love my black self and passed on all Marcus Garvey taught her while growing up. Therefore I was inclined to read the philosophy and the story of Marcus Garvey and his works. It is a privilege to be in Ghana, where I have visited Marcus Garvey's office in Accra.

The book Marcus Teaches Us captured me right from the start with the vivid illustration of the cover which continued throughout the book. The author further personalizes the book as well as bringing an inclusive nature with the "This Book Belongs To" by suggesting the owner paste or draw a picture of themselves. The important teachings of Marcus Garvey are presented in a clear and concise manner with lots of interactive elements, which the children will really enjoy. I found this book not only to be a good read for children but adults alike! Thank you very much for providing me with a copy of this book! I very much look forward to sharing it with the children year after year!
