EAW Publications — ConsultinG
When youth speak,
learning transforms
Equity-centred school and community consulting rooted in youth voices, community partnership, and culturally responsive learning design.
Our Foundation
Learning and writing to enrich lives — in classrooms, families, community.
EAW Publications has long been dedicated to enriching the lives of parents, children, and families through Black-centred storytelling, education, and scholarship. That same commitment now extends directly into the community through intentional consulting work focused on equity, identity, and culturally supportive values..
Our consulting team comprises experienced community practitioners, who support families, educators and school boards in creating the conditions where racialized and BIPOC students are not just included — they are heard, honoured, and given the tools to shape their own learning and futures.

What We bring to Schools
01
Student Focus Groups
Facilitated sessions that invite racialized and BIPOC students in Grades 7–12 to share their lived experiences, identify what matters most to them, and shape the direction of future learning opportunities. Designed to be voluntary, safe, and student-led in spirit.
02
Participatory Action Research
We apply a PAR model to school engagement — ensuring that student insight is not merely gathered but actively used to design programs, workshops, and learning initiatives. Students become co-architects of their education, not just participants in it.
03
Cultural Workshop Facilitation
Rooted in the tradition that began with our Textured Hair Workshop, our programming creates space for students to explore identity, culture, and belonging in ways that connect their personal experience to broader social and historical contexts.
04
Equity Plan Alignment
We work alongside school board equity teams to ensure that initiatives are meaningfully connected to board-level equity commitments. Our work supports the amplification of student voice in ways that align with equity plans, strategic goals, and inclusive equity frameworks.
05
Facilitator & Staff Guidance
We provide school facilitators and designated staff leads with clear communication materials, action guides, and coaching on how to approach students in an invitational, non-pressuring way that builds genuine trust and participation.
06
Program Design & Follow-Through
We close the loop. When students share what they want, we help schools and boards design the follow-on programming that honours those commitments — from scheduling and logistics to curriculum design and community reporting.
What We bring to Communities
01
Facilitating Youth Affinity Groups
Creation of a safe and brave space in which youth are able to freely express and nurture their lived experiences. In this way they are able to empower their own positive self-identity.
02
Cultural workshop facilitation
Allowing youth to engage in workshops which reflect their needs: for example hair and beauty, food security, technology.
03
Responsive Parental Guidance
The focus is on working with parents and caregivers on age- appropriate solutions as youth go through their developmental stages.
