Black History Month 2021: Any Difference? Part One

As Black History Month draws near, the Book Marcus Teaches Us  which is being re-published, is the catalyst for remembering this great philosopher Marcus Garvey.

Why did I think of Marcus Garvey? Is there any difference in how this special month is seen in 2021?

You see, his teachings between 1887 and 1940 had an awesome and long lasting effect on Presidents and Premiers of several states in Africa and the developing worlds. The pan-African movement built on thoughts of great men like Marcus Garvey. These teachings still hold strong in 2021.

Black History Month 2021 is a continuation of the celebration of African American achievement officially started in 1976. It has changed in many ways the most important of which is the  understanding of the importance of Marcus Garvey to the celebration ( now called Black Heritage Month in some places). Secondly the world is now coming to acknowledge that
Black people live all over the world and will always support one another in times of assault and oppression.

Let us look at Garvey. Garvey built his philosophy around respect and honoring of people who loved and realized their
African historical and racial roots. At the same time he was a pragmatist. You can see him changing with the times and learning more every day about how economics really works in today’s societies. He also experienced firsthand in his travels, the lengths to which the world will go to strengthen lying, negative generalizations and stereotypes. His death tells us that he experienced it all.
