I love celebrating thanksgiving in the USA, it is soooo much fun, the colours of the trees, the yummy smells from the kitchen, the parade, the laughter. Those thoughts bring me warm and fuzzy feelings. But many young families have an opposite feeling of nervousness in their gut about getting together for the Thanksgiving Feast of Food, Family and Friends. They feel it may just go crazy and that all these people in one house plus the kids, is just asking for disaster. But while the Food may be great and they feast way too much, or the family laughs too much making silly jokes and the friends get to know sides of you they have never seen before the whole point is to remember the silver lining of Thanksgiving; Giving Thanks for things big (the food of course!) and small (the kids).
A Thanksgiving Feast of Food, Family and Friends is the perfect holiday to embrace the teachable moments of good social interaction and interpersonal behaviours not to mention table etiquette. The kids are watching you and learning as they see us interacting with each other from day to day and in every situation even when we don’t think they are looking. Simple as it may seem, sitting down to eat is one of the oldest forms of fellowship and connecting with each other as people. Eating and talking go hand in hand.
So while the Food might make you Fat 🙂 ; the Family might make you Fight 🙁 ; the Friends might make you want to Fly away…Don’t forget the kids are watching and they should feel special too as a big part of the day. So here are a few Thanksgiving Feast songs to share with the Family and Friends while eating Fantastic Food! Sing and shout and have a Thanksgiving Feast of Food, Family and Friends that will make a lifetime of memories for you and your extended Thanksgiving family!
Thanksgiving Feast of Food, Family and Friends Songs for kids
Thanksgiving Feast
(Sung To: Are you sleeping?)
We eat turkey, we eat turkey
Oh so good, oh so good
Always on Thanksgiving, always on Thanksgiving
Yum,yum,yum… yum,yum,yum
We eat pumpkin pie, we eat pumpkin pie
Oh so good, oh so good
Always on Thanksgiving, always on Thanksgiving
Yum,yum,yum… yum,yum,yum
We eat yams, we eat yams
Oh so good, oh so good
Always on Thanksgiving, always on Thanksgiving
Yum,yum,yum… yum,yum,yum
We eat mashed potatoes, we eat mashed potatoes
Oh so good, oh so good
Always on Thanksgiving, always on Thanksgiving
Yum,yum,yum… yum,yum,yum
Let your children make up their own verses
Thanksgiving (Sung To: Where is Thumpkin)
Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving
Here it comes, here it comes.
Turkey on the table, turkey on the table.
Mmm-good, mmm-good.
Cornbread muffins, chestnut stuffing,
Pumpkin pie, ten feet high.
We were so much thinner, before we came to dinner.
Me-oh-my, me-oh-my!
A Thanksgiving Song (Sung To: Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
The Pilgrims sailed away, far across the sea.
They came to America, so they could be free.
The Native Americans, helped them plant the corn.
Then they shared a great big feast, Thanksgiving Day was born!
Until next time remember to “Create Share and Love”. Ggee
