Who is using the Internet?

I guess I am a bit pensive today when I realize that about a third of the world’s population – 2.3 billion – does not have access to the Internet  the report by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) found.  The chart below is even more revealing. What does this say. I guess we should be responsible about the information we share and consider who are the privileged people reading it?

I blog about parenting, hoping to influence how parents and others approach the art of parenting. Especially when it comes to children between 3 and 7 years of age. This fascination with this age group is because this is the formative years, the years when self esteem falls into place and parents and caregivers have so much responsibility for potential outcomes. Yet parents can’t do it all. The community around us needs to change, to be more responsible and less and less, leave it to the fast food diet of the Internet and the airwaves.

You see the Internet has it’s pros and cons and I agree with specialists like Dr Taylor who advocate for less attention time for the intent and the airwaves for this age group. We need to have someone and we ourselves need to spend time with the preschoolers talking, thinking, creating. It’s a challenge I know and sometimes we are just plain puckered out. But I think with a little planning we can create a little group or watch out for events that suit us that are not too costly perhaps and develop our own arsenal of music that we appreciate.

I was watching the documentary on one of the adolescent school shooters that is still alive and he did give signals that something was wrong. Also he did rely on the Internet and the airwaves for solace and inspiration  So it’s back in our plate as caregivers and parents. Gotta think more clearly, listen, hear and don’t feel that because you don’t have the dollars there is nothing you can do
