Journey of the Blue Elephant is a metaphysical interpretation of life and its challenges. The story flows without a hitch. It tells us of a lake which “heals you if you have some illness or sickness”. A human goes there and forgets why he is there and relives each day as if it were the first. He meets a bird, a blue elephant and a baby gorilla as together they try to help the blue elephant find her way home. The story tells us of the exciting passage through the forest. It is awesome how Vasil makes the encounters vivid, with the human learning to speak the language of the animals while each one confronts individual  personal weaknesses. A great example of this was when they had to spend a night in a magical cave in the forest.

It was difficult to leave it for an hour or so. Why? It is not suspenseful. Rather, you want to know, how does the writer solve this conundrum? Where is the moral message? Journey of the Blue Elephant is full of moralistic teachings without being pompous or wordy. When I saw the title I expected maybe something like a fantasy for children. It is for an adult reader. The greatest flaw of the writing is the grammatical errors which somehow simply help to bring out the moral messages. It is not annoying. A must-read as we choose our way forward.
