MOM I’M BORED! – HERE ARE 4 THINGS TO DO TOGETHER

How many times a day do you hear “Mom. I’m bored”. It’s our new mantra especially for the only child (smile). I know it’s all about adding to your arsenal of Mom tricks. “I’m bored” soon becomes a thing of the past with these suggestions that don’t take too much planning or add on equipment.

Picture this: First day of term break for preschoolers and elementary schools.

8:30 AM       Your 10 year old only-child says Mom I am going to make my own breakfast

You     Thanks Goodness.. Go ahead sweetie. Back to sleep

8:45 AM       Mom do you want some?

You       No Thanks, it’s okay. Back to sleep

9:30 AM       Mom what am I doing today?

You     silence, silence, Well I guess it’s time to get up

With this stay at home order, holidays and school days are all the same for us. Everyone including me, is ONLINE (sorry, online).

Here are 3 quick suggestions that will get you pleasantly through part of the day or you can do one each day.

  1. Go through her cupboard together. Separate the clothes on the hangars into school/casual/dressy. While doing this see who can remember when last you wore an item or maybe where did you get it. You can stop and talk and generally bond while working through all the memories.
  2. If you can tell me how to make it-we can make it together. Anything
  3. This one depends on what she is good at, whether it is an academic subject or a craft or an activity. Select one of these three. Give it a minimum time for conclusion and make sure you have a gift for the winner.

4 areas for activity

Macramé: make the most beautiful picture of a rose or a building or a picture of a face.

Sport: who can run from the front door to the back door of your house. Best of 3 times. If can’t go outside do it inside. P.S. When it’s your turn, it can take as long as you want.

Music: Give  yourselves a fixed time to learn a short piece of music. This can be for voice or violin or drums or recorder… whichever you have. Then perform and video the performance.

Outdoors:  Visit one of the many trails which are always open. If you are able to carry  bicycles that’s fine. The trails in the woods or around the housing. Either one. Don’t get overtired and remember the water bottles.

Have Fun!! No more I’m bored. We will get through this together!!
